October 10, 2001

On October 10, 2001 almost 400 people attended the Montreal Culture Summit. As Montreal embarks upon the task of formulating a new planning program and cultural policy, it is urgent to examine the relation between the central city and the boroughs. Decentralization, community, and participatory democracy are among the key issues that can be studied at the level of neighbourhoods, at the heart of our living environments.

Close to 200 people attended the Culture and Neighbourhoods event at Usine C on June 12. Some fifteen guest panellists – artists, researchers, cultural agents and workers – generously shared their research, points of view and experience to illustrate the intimate relation between the development of culture and that of the city.
